La Granaina

Nuria Manglano "La Granaina" is a non conformist pioneer, revolutionary flamenco-dancer.
In her flamenco vein beat the echoes of her Andalusian blood and the rhythm of an artistic pulse that have always looked for authenticity.
Continuing with the tradition of her heroines (Isadora Duncan and Carmen Amaya), Nuria has converted -in her early beginning- the streets of Barcelona, Paris and Amsterdam in her stage, in which she exerted a personal and artistic demand. The creative language of “La Granaina” is nourished from the most diverse sources. Her artistic pitcher refreshes at the sounds that comes from other lands and nourishes from her professional and vital experience acquired during her eleven years living in the vibrating and cosmopolitan Dutch Capital.
A tireless curiosity and an inquiring spirit, had resulted in a deep investigation on the connections between the flamenco feeling and other musical forms (jazz, African music, Latin Folklore, etc).
As in the Indian traditional dance Kathak, Nuria dances, sings and tells stories along her shows, in the company of high level musicians from the most diverse tendencies and traditions. With no need to hide herself behind the technique to impress de audience, La Granaina takes risks, tries to merge with the music so her dancing can transform into an aesthetic, harmonious and visceral element among the expressed by the instruments. Her choreographies emerge from the impulse that arises from the music that she chooses to dance and not the opposite.
Her strength and character goes beyond the education that comes from schools and conservatories.. Nuria is the reflection of her dancing: rebel, self-taught, exciting and emotional. Nuria is her Art.
“The real artist is a born fighter that transforms magically the adverse circumstances in inspiration and charming moments” La Granaina.
